Thump of snow to blanket southern Quebec to end the week

A late-week system could bring difficult travel to southern Quebec as a round of heavy snow eyes the region.

A Colorado low will scrape to the south of Quebec late Thursday and through Friday, spreading snow across southern portions of the province.

The snow will initially spread into the southern communities late day Thursday, with a swath of snow continuing to spread north through the overnight and into Friday morning.

Snow will continue to fall across southern regions through the day on Friday before departing Friday evening. Light snow will also spread as far north as Quebec City, though with just flurries expected.

The greatest totals are expected along and south of the St. Lawrence, wth 10-15 cm likely across Metro Montreal and the Eastern Townships. Plan some extra time into Friday morning’s commute for the likelihood of travel delays due to snow-covered roads.

Totals will quickly drop off farther north, with only a few centimetres expected in Drummondville, and only a light dusting in the forecast toward Trois-Rivieres.

Looking ahead, a more active storm track could expose southern Quebec to additional systems through next week. At least two more rounds of snow are predicted to hit southern Quebec next week.
