Back to the Future star Christopher Lloyd and Grease actress Stockard Channing are two of five new cast members confirmed for Sonic the Hedgehog TV series Knuckles.

Paramount+ has announced the two will both appear in recurring roles alongside Operation Fortune star Cary Elwes, Veep actor Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel (of Bob's Burgers fame). There's no word yet on what characters Lloyd and his co-stars will play in the upcoming series.

The five stars will join Luther actor Idris Elba, who is confirmed to reprise his role as Knuckles following the second Sonic the Hedgehog film.

Adam Pally will also return as Wade Whipple, who will play an important part in the show's plot. The official logline for Knuckles reads: "Knuckles agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior."

The Sonic the Hedgehog TV spin-off was confirmed back in February 2022. In addition to Elba and Pally's casting, fans learnt that Game of Thrones' Rory McCann and Ted Lasso's Ellie Taylor have also signed on as cast members for Knuckles.

Tika Sumpter, who appeared as Maddie Wachowski in both Sonic the Hedgehog films, is another familiar face attached to the new TV project.

According to Variety, new series Knuckles will be "set in the time between Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and the third film in the franchise". Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is currently scheduled for release on December 20, 2024.

Jeff Fowler, who directed both Sonic films has been confirmed as director for the pilot episode. He will also executive produce the series alongside Idris Elba.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is available to buy now in the UK from Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store and other participating digital retailers.
