Hosted by the Twin Angels Foundation, the annual Back-to-School Giveaway is back this Sunday at Cedar Shoals High School. This will mark the 10th year of the event, which has taken place in various surrounding counties.

From noon to 6 p.m., the giveaway will provide back-to-school essentials such as clothing and classroom supplies to more than 2,000 students in the community. Kids can also get a fresh back-to-school look with free haircuts and braids from local barbers and hairstylists.

“This event is one event we look forward to. Seeing so many unfortunate kids and parents under one roof is bittersweet; seeing nothing but laughter and happy tears from parents and kids. As long as God continues to bless us, we will continue to do whatever we can for the unfortunate in Athens-Clarke and surrounding counties,” said Director Dedrick Baughns.

5 things to do this weekend: School supply drive, LatinxFest, 3-on-3 tournament and more

Stop the Violence will take a front seat at this event with educational programming and resources from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department and Clarke County Sheriff's Office, District 3 Commissioner Tiffany Taylor, and Cedar Shoals High School, which is located at 1300 Cedar Shoals Dr. Offering tips on combating bullying and gun violence, the program aims to equip kids with the tools they need for dealing with violence.

Event participants are encouraged to wear the color orange, which has become a defining color in the national gun violence prevention movement.

“Wearing the color orange may not come to mind as a method in stopping gun violence, but for those advocating for prevention, the color symbolizes unity and support for the individuals directly and indirectly affected,” said Baughns.

With the mission of empowering Athens-Clarke and surrounding counties, the Twin Angels Foundation hosts several other events throughout the year including Easter and Halloween candy giveaways, Summer Snacks for Kids, and the Elderly Support Giveaway. Those looking to support the foundation can donate shoes, clothes, and school supplies to 1905 Danielsville Rd., Athens, Georgia, or donate directly via Cash App at $TwinAngelsLLC.
