Back to School "Summer Jam" underway at Elwood Park

Aug. 20—The Riverside Ministerial Alliance hosted a first year back to school "Summer Jam" at the Elwood community center Saturday afternoon.

Church alliances from Elwood, Wathena, and Blair, Kansas — Eastern Doniphan County — partnered together to make sure kids in the community are going into the school year prepared.

The event had various activities for families to enjoy including live music, food, and free book bags and school supplies for all age groups.

First Baptist Church Pastor of Elwood, Anthony Byrd, says the local churches wanted to host one last summer event for families to enjoy before the start of classes.

"There's live music, bounce houses, and we're giving away free book bags and school supplies," he said. "It doesn't matter what area you're from we want everyone to come out and have a good time before summer break ends."

The First Baptist Pastor says the fun-filled event will be going on all night and they hope to see all age groups and families attend.

"It's about bringing unity to the community," he said. "That's what the back of our t-shirts are promoting today. We want everyone to come together in a safe space and have a fun time."

The event is being held at Elwood Park and Community Center on 7th and Massachusetts.
