The Jets worked out two quarterbacks with versatile skillsets this week, according to the NFL transaction wire. The first was former Cardinals and Canadian Football League quarterback Chris Streveler. The other was quarterback-turned-tight end John Lovett.

Streveler saw action in two games this past season for the Cardinals – mostly in Week 10 when he entered the game for an injured Colt McCoy, who had been filling in for an injured Kyler Murray. Streveler went 6-9 passing for 36 yards and took two sacks. He also rushed twice for four yards. Streveler played in five games for the Cardinals in 2020 and went 11-16 for 105 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Streveler’s CFL career is a bit more impressive. He completed 65 percent of his passing attempts for 2,698 yards, 19 touchdowns and 19 interceptions with 1,167 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns in two seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 2018-2019. He helped Blue Bombers win the 2019 Grey Cup with a passing touchdown and 30 rushing yards.

Lovett, meanwhile, is a more interesting case. He played quarterback, running back and receiver at Princeton, where he finished with 2,509 passing yards, 1,589 rushing yards, 553 receiving yards, 31 passing touchdowns, five interceptions, 42 rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns.

He switched to tight end and running back after going undrafted in 2019, but only played three snaps in 2020. Lovett spent time on the Chiefs practice squad from 2019-2020 and on the Packers in 2020, but injuries ended both of Lovett’s NFL seasons and he hasn’t joined a team since the Packers waived him on March 21, 2021 for a failed physical.

Zach Wilson’s knee injury in 2021 proved the Jets need a quality backup quarterback. That likely won’t be Streveler or Lovett, but New York’s QB depth chart is up in the air. Joe Flacco is an impending free agent, while Mike White will be a restricted free agent. Robert Saleh already said he’d prefer to keep Flacco and White in 2022, but that’s up to Joe Douglas and the signal-callers.

Streveler and Lovett could at least be options further down the depth chart than No. 2, or they could just be players the Jets want more information on as the team traverses the offseason before the beginning of the 2022 league year on March 16. There is a lot of time for more workouts between now and then.
