'Bad day' no more: Clinton County man scores $1M on scratch-off lottery ticket

LANSING – A Clinton County man who bought a scratch-off ticket on a lark cashed in on a $1 million prize.

The man, 40, told lottery officials he bought a 20X Cashword ticket at a store in Owosso after leaving work early on "a bad day." After seeing he'd won $1 million, he took it back to the store, and a scan revealed he'd need to file a claim.

"I was still having a hard time believing it was real, so I scanned it on the Lottery app to confirm," he said in a Michigan Lottery news release. "It was an unbelievable feeling when the amount of $1 million came up on the screen."

The man asked to remain anonymous.

He choose a lump-sum payment of $634,000, instead of 30 annuity payments totaling the full $1 million. He plans to buy a new truck and save the remainder.

The winning ticket was bought at J&H Family Stores on East Main Street in Owosso

Tickets for the 20X Cashword game are $20 each. More than $21 million in prizes remain, including one top prize of $1 million, officials said.
