Bad weather dims Tokyo illuminations

Illuminations on Tokyo's tallest building the Skytree Tower were dampened by bad weather on Wednesday (April 14) as the Japanese capital marked 100 days until the Olympic Games are due to begin.

Tokyo Skytree and the Azuma Bridge over the Sumida river were lit up with the Olympic colours for one hour after sundown, however rain and poor visibility blunted the impact of the display.

With just over three months to go before the opening ceremony, organisers face a deluge of challenges with the pandemic affecting decisions on everything from athlete safety to spectator numbers to ticket sales as well as local public support for the Olympics.
