Wisconsin's men's basketball game against host Nebraska moved to Thursday afternoon from Tuesday night

MADISON – Officials from Wisconsin and Nebraska have agreed to move the schools’ men’s basketball game to 4 p.m. Thursday from Tuesday night.

UW coach Greg Gard revealed that development during a radio appearance after the Badgers' 86-74 loss to Michigan State on Friday night and the announcement was made Saturday morning.

The game is to be televised by the Big Ten Network.

Coincidentally, the UW women are scheduled to play Nebraska at 7 p.m. Thursday in Lincoln.

Nebraska (6-13, 0-8 Big Ten) was scheduled to host Ohio State (12-4, 5-2) on Saturday but that game was postponed because of COVID-19 issues in the Cornhuskers’ program.

According to the Big Ten’s updated COVID-19 policy, if teams do not have at least seven scholarship players and one coach available, the game is to be rescheduled. The hope is that Nebraska will be able to meet those numbers by Thursday.

UW (15-3, 6-2) was without forward Tyler Wahl (ankle) Friday. Although the postponement gives Wahl a couple extra days to heal, the ankle injury he suffered at Northwestern was severe and it is unclear when he will return.

The Badgers are scheduled to host Minnesota on Jan. 30. The Gophers (11-5, 2-5) had to postpone their Jan. 19 game against Penn State because of COVID-19 issues but returned to action Saturday with eight scholarship players and held off Rutgers, 68-65, in Minneapolis.
