Bahama Bob’s weeks away from re-opening after devastating fire

GULF SHORES, Ala. (WKRG) — Six months after a devastating fire, folks at Bahama Bob’s are now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

These days, it’s the sounds of progress that surround the Gulf Shores restaurant.

“Everybody is like, ‘We can’t wait for you to open,'” General Manager Tina Wesner said. “It’s going to be busy the day we open so get ready for that.”

That day could be just weeks away. Fire forced the shutdown of one of the oldest and favorite restaurants in Gulf Shores last July.

“There was never a doubt in our minds that we would not rebuild,” Wesner said.

Contractors have been busy for about a month now ripping out all of the electrical wiring, extending the roof line and enclosing a work area for servers.

“Trying to get to where we can see the end of the tunnel so to speak,” overseeing it all, co-manager Whit Spellman who seems to have gone from restaurateur to contractor. “The kitchen is a lot easier than this,” he said. “This is too many headaches, so I will be glad when this is all over with.”

When it is over, there may be a new look inside and out, but the food and service that draw thousands back year after year will not disappoint, according to Wesner.

“Absolutely better than ever,” he said. “We are going to make that happen.”

In about six weeks, all the contractors will be gone, and the restaurant full of customers again. Bahama Bob’s expects to reopen by the end of March.
