Bainbridge third, North Kitsap fourth at boys state swim/dive championships

Bainbridge senior Jason Nordgren earned a pair of individual titles and anchored a winning relay as the Spartans' boys swim/dive team placed third at Saturday's Class 3A championship meet at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Bainbridge scored 209.8 points, finishing ahead of Bellevue (208) by winning the last race of the day: the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Spartans' quartet of sophomore Aidan Cole and seniors Curtis Stewart, Finn Wenker and Nordgren placed first in a time of 3 minutes, 10.40 seconds (Bellevue placed second in 3:11.82).

Mercer Island won the 3A title with 285 points, while Lakeside placed second in 242.5 points.

Nordgren grabbed his first individual title in the 50 free, winning in 20.85. He added another title in the 100 free, swimming 45.75.

Bainbridge also placed fourth in the 200 medley relay and fifth in the 200 freestyle relay. Freshman Carter Cox finished seventh in the 100 backstroke.

In the 2A meet, North Kitsap placed fourth with 188.5 points. Pullman earned the team championship with 286 points, followed by Anacortes (245) and Bellingham (190).

Leading the Vikings were senior Ian Stefanski, who placed fifth in the 200 free and fifth in the 100 backstroke, and Mac MacKinnon, who placed fifth in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 free. Stefanski and MacKinnon teamed with senior August Maberry and junior Levi McLain to place second in the 400 free relay, and McKinnon joined with McLain, sophomore Henry Maxwell and senior Gage Hendryx to place fourth in the 200 free relay.

Bremerton's Brendan Gill placed seventh in the 100 free.

In Thursday's diving competition, South Kitsap sophomore Karter Warner placed fourth in 4A.
