The Great British Bake Off has said farewell to Jaunsz in the semi-final.

The head teacher's PA had been Star Baker in the week one, but admitted "patisserie is my weakness" after receiving criticism from the judges.

The 34-year-old Polish baker said: "It doesnt surprise me... And Janusz is leaving the tent!"

"I am not upset, the best three bakers are left clearly. It was an amazing time, amazing people."

Host Noel Fielding said: "I've got the horrible, horrible job of announcing the person that is leaving us and this the worst time to go."

Judge Prue Leith told Janusz: "You're a lovely guy and a great baker."

In yet another surprising turn of events, Abdul was made Star Baker for the first time in the competition.

The 29-year-old electronics engineer exclaimed: "I don't know man, in the final and Star Baker as well, it's unbelievable. This is just awesome to see because it just shows that I have been improving."

In the Signature round Janusz's mini Charlottes were criticised by Paul Hollywood for looking "untidy" and having "tough" sponge.

Leith added: "But over all I think it looks very pretty."

Janusz came third in the Technical after serving vertical tarts with soft, underbaked pastry. But optimistically observed: "With only four people left I am sort of in the middle."

And his Swedish krokant Showstopper cake was dubbed "untidy" and overbaked.

Nanny Sandro, 30, scraped through to the final after his krokant ended up looking untidy and unfinished after he failed to complete his elaborate design.

Hollywood said: "It's mad, it's all over the place like a Monty Python krokant."

Cardiovascular research assistant Syabira, 32, served up a krokant in the shape of a double helix DNA structure which Leith declared to be "absolutely wonderful."
