BAKER BASEBALL: Bulldogs lose pair to Parma in home opener

Apr. 11—Baker's baseball team opened its home schedule with two tough losses to Parma, Idaho, on a chilly, damp Friday afternoon, April 7 at the Sports Complex.

After the Pirates scored one run in the top of the first, Kai Ogan drove in Jaxon Logsdon in the bottom of the inning to tie the score.

But that was Baker's sole run.

Parma scored single runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings to claim a 4-1 win.

The Pirates won the second game 9-4.

First game

Baker had one of its best games of the season on the mound and in the field, as both starter Aldo Duran, who went 3.2 innings, and Jake McClaughry had strong outings. Baker committed only one error.

"Our pitching game was the best it has been all year," Baker coach Tim Smith said. "We threw strikes and the defense played pretty well behind them."

But the Bulldogs couldn't get anything going at the plate.

Second game

Baker took a 2-1 lead after the first inning, but after the Pirates led 4-3 after three innings, the Bulldogs again struggled offensively, especially with runners in scoring position.

Baker had 10 hits, with Duran, Thomas Smithson and Sage Joseph all getting two hits.

"Our bats got kinda quiet when we had guys on base," Smith said. "Seemed like we left bases loaded twice and two guys on twice. Just needed the key hits."

Smithson, Logsdon and Cole Richards all had an RBI for Baker.

Will O'Connell went 5.2 innings, with Smithson finishing the contest.

Baker played well defensively again, committing just two errors.

Baker played its third straight home game on Monday, April 10 against Nyssa in another nonleague game.
