The Baker to open new restaurant in Fairhaven. Here's what we know.

FAIRHAVEN – With the success of his bakery The Baker on Pleasant Street in New Bedford, chef and owner Brandon Roderick will also be taking his talents to Fairhaven Village with Olivia's – in the space once occupied by the popular Elisabeth's restaurant.

“I just love restaurant life and I am excited to be in that element again, versus our quick service model at The Baker,” Roderick said.

Since its establishment in 2016, The Baker, has become one of the top bakeries in the SouthCoast. Roderick hopes to replicate the same success with Olivia's Restaurant.

The plan is to create an upscale neighborhood eatery and bar.

“I am really excited to take over this space and bring some life to this building,” said Roderick, adding that he was told that it was once a place to purchase ferry tickets, as well as a ferry cafe and then of course Elisabeth’s.

“I love how quaint the neighborhood feels and being surrounded by the boatyards where boats come to get repaired, painted and restored gave me hope.”

When is Olivia's Restaurant opening?

With plans to open in September 2023, Roderick is currently renovating the space collaborating with a Fairhaven designer in an effort to create a welcoming and uplifting environment, similar to the one that customers previously enjoyed at Elizabeth's.

“I’m excited to get to design the space and take the time and resources to do it correctly,” he said, thanking Marcus Ferror and Jay Lanagan for the help to make it all happen.

What's going to happen with The Baker?

Hoping that all things will “click into place,” Roderick said he is focusing on getting The Baker to be self-sufficient and put all the quality control points in place.

“I am most excited about coordinating the dance that happens between the front of house and back of house during service from the host stand to the dishwasher,” he added.

“Maintaining quality is at the top of my list.”
