Bakersfield police announce DUI checkpoint taking place May 3

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Bakersfield police will be checking drivers for signs of impairment and proper licensing this weekend.

On May 3, the Bakersfield Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint in an undisclosed location within city limits. Drivers will be screened from 6:30 p.m. to 2 a.m., in an effort to reduce impaired driving on the road.

Officers say that drivers will only be stopped momentarily. Bakersfield police remind drivers that a DUI arrest could lead to jail time and expenses totaling over $10,000.

Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by 20% when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and patrols are routinely conducted.
