Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra to perform ‘The Conductor’s Spellbook’ in matinee show

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra is set to host a matinee show in February for their upcoming performance of “The Conductor’s Spellbook.”

According to a release, “The Conductor’s Spellbook,” composed by Paul Dooley, tells the story of a young boy who finds a book of spells on the way to a symphony, and uses it to control the orchestra. Organizers say it will be an exciting and engaging concert experience that introduces audience to music, orchestral instruments and even conducting.

“We are thrilled to bring this production to a live audience,” Bakersfield Symphony’s executive director Holly Arnold said in a release. “We wanted to create an event that would be fun, engaging, and affordable for every family in our community – even families with children who aren’t ready to sit through a whole evening concert.”

Masters of Harmony to perform at Bakersfield HS

Doors open at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10, and the concert begins at 2 p.m. at Mechanics Bank Theater. The symphony recommends arriving early for pre-concert activities.
