"The occupiers conducted 250 shellings with different equipment in the area of Bakhmut (in the past 24 hours). Our army also pinched back. As a result, 80 personnel were eliminated, 99 were injured and one Russian soldier taken captive. Three self-propelled artillery systems, an electronic warfare station and an ammunition depot were destroyed," the Ukrainian Army Inform outlet quoted Cherevatyi as saying.

The enemy is rotating its troops by replacing Wagner Group mercenaries with regular units.

Cherevatyi reported the situation in the area of Kupyansk in the past day as well, namely:

  • The enemy shelled that area 342 times

  • Two armed clashes and three air strikes were registered

  • 20 occupiers were killed and another 52 injured

  • A D-20 152 mm gun-howitzer was destroyed

Despite declaring victory in Bakhmut, the aggressor's troops have been struggling to gain full control over the city for over ten months, Cherevatyi said summarizing the actions of the Wagner Group and the Russian military.

The rotation of what is left of the mercenaries is looking more like a retreat than like a planned action, the colonel said.

Ukrainian Defense Forces advanced another 350-450 meters in some positions in and around Bakhmut, Cherevatyi reported on May 27.

Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prygozhin ordered his mercenaries on May 25 to leave Bakhmut by June 1.
