Baldwin to honor a repeat champion with lots of hardware

Mar. 4—This time, Baldwin High had a much greater impact on the championship results at the University of Georgia.

And so, Milledgeville, Baldwin County and the Baldwin County School District are one more time paying homage to its national College Football Playoff champion. Not only one of about 100 members of the Georgia Bulldog football team of 2022, but the Outstanding Defensive Player of the Peach Bowl semifinal ... and the Outstanding Defensive Player of the CFP National Championship Game.

One more time, it's Javon Bullard Day.

Call him a safety, a rover or a star, Bullard made his name known in a positive way as the Georgia Bulldogs defeated both Ohio State in a Peach Bowl nail-biter and TCU in a finals rout to win back-to-back championships for the first time in school history.

On Saturday, March 11, the Javon Bullard Day Celebration Parade begins at 10 a.m. at the Milledgeville Police Department.

According to Baldwin High athletic director Dexter Ricks, there will be about 15 participants, and they will take a route east from the station and go right on Elbert Street.

"The route will continue with a right turn on Hancock Street," said Ricks. "We will make a stop at Milledgeville City Hall for a proclamation presentation and proceed to the Baldwin County Courthouse for a presentation. The parade will end at the Magnolia Ballroom."

March 11 may be Javon Bullard Day, but it's really a weekend of celebration for Baldwin High's history. Just like last year, Bullard will tour the schools of the Baldwin County District on Friday, March 10.

"Last year was an extremely successful event," said Ricks. "(Bullard) is excited to spend the day again with the students, staff and faculty at each of (our) schools. We would like to take this opportunity to show the nation the great things we have going on in the Baldwin County School District."

The Baldwin County School District, also on March 11, is staging the inaugural Distinguished Alumni Gala at 6 p.m. at the Georgia College Magnolia Ballroom.

According to a statement from Baldwin School District, the Distinguished Alumni are graduates of the school district who have gone on to considerable success in their careers, fields of study, philanthropy, and have had a significant and profound impact on the community.

Tickets are limited at $40 each and can be obtained at the Baldwin County Board of Education, by calling 478-457-3303, or through GOFAN.CO gofan.co/app/events/922451?schoolId=GA19127
