An elderly Baldy Mesa woman is believed to have been mauled to death by a pair of neighboring dogs while taking a walk Friday morning.

Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Victor Valley Station found Soon Han, an 80-year-old Baldy Mesa resident, unresponsive in the area of Mesa Road and Vinton Road after being called to the scene in the unincorporated High Desert community around 11:15 a.m. Friday, according to the sheriff's department.

Han had suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

"Investigators believe Han was out for a walk when she was attacked by two dogs from a nearby home," the press release states.

The dogs are both believed to be of Dogo Argentino breed, which is "a pack-hunting dog, bred for the pursuit of big-game such as wild boar and puma," according to the American Kennel Club website.

The owner of the dogs is cooperating with the investigation. San Bernardino County Animal Control took custody of both dogs after the attack and will hold them "until the investigation is complete and a vicious dog hearing takes place," according to the press release.

The Sheriff's Department asks that anyone with information related to the investigation contact Deputy C. Fox at the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station, at (760) 552-6800 or Sheriff’s Dispatch at (760) 956-5001.
