Ball out on a budget: These are the cheapest South Beach Wine & Food Festival events

So you want to go to the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, but you don’t want to spend a fortune.

It’s not really possible to do justice to SOBEWFF on a tight budget. Tickets for the Best of the Best event, for example, will run you $350-$400; a Southern Kitchen brunch with Trisha Yearwood will set you back $200.

But cheer up! You can find some good events for under $100. Really.

Here are a few suggestions, but remember: these are only a few of the food, cocktail, wine and family events offered at the festival, which runs Feb. 19-23

Craft-y Happy Hour

Kick off your SOBEWFF weekend with craft cocktails from Marc Murphy (and some light bites, too).

6-8 p.m. Feb. 20; Mondrian South Beach Hotel, 1100 West Ave., Miami Beach; $95

Art of the Tiki Cocktail Showdown

You had us at “Tiki Cocktail.” Find out all the amazing things Bacardi rum can do. Expect an appearance by Patron, too.

10 p.m.-1 a.m. Feb. 21; Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel, 1717 Collins Ave.; $95

Sliced: A Genuine Pizza Party

Michael Schwartz brings the best pizzamakers to Miami to show off their skills. Cheesy fun in the best possible way (with beer, wine and cocktails, too).

10 p.m.-midnight Feb. 21; Miami Design District - Jungle Plaza; $95

Nulo Pet Food’s Yappie Hour

Yappie Hour will take over the Loews Miami Beach on Saturday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. as part of the 2018 South Beach Wine & Food Festival.
Yappie Hour will take over the Loews Miami Beach on Saturday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. as part of the 2018 South Beach Wine & Food Festival.

Bring your kids and four-legged friends. There will be snacks for everybody.

4-6:30 p.m. Feb. 22; Loews Miami Beach Hotel, 1601 Collins Ave., Miami Beach; $75 adults, $35 for kids

Sips and Dips

Hosted by Adam Richman, this event could be our favorite of the entire weekend. It’s all about dipping various things - pitas, meat, vegetables and who knows what else - into a variety of dips. Drinks will be served, too, although we are taking away your wine if you double dip.

5:30 p.m. Feb. 22, 1 Hotel South Beach; 2341 Collins Ave., Miami Beach; $95.

Bootcamp and Bites

First you get up early. Then you work out. Then, blessedly, you get to eat and drink with Robert Irvine, founder of Robert Irvine Foods, who just opened Public House at Tropicana in Las Vegas.

8:30-10:30 a.m., Feb. 22; Nikki Beach, 1 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach; $50

Goya Foods’ Fun and Fit as Family

Adults and kids can join chefs and food personalities at the Kidz Kitchen - and check out some of the animals living on Jungle Island.

10 a.m.-5 p.m. Feb. 22-23, Jungle Island, 1111 Parrot Jungle Trail, Miami; $35 adult, $20 child

Spike Your Ice

OK, maybe this is our favorite event. The masterminds at Salt & Straw team up with Gabe Urrutia to teach you how to make boozy ice cream with bourbon, scotch and whiskey. Don’t bring the kids.

3 p.m. Feb. 23; SGWS Wynwood, 2105 N. Miami Ave., Miami; $95
