2 alarm fire in Ballantyne apartment complex caused by heating unit

An apartment complex in Ballantyne caught fire early Sunday morning.

The fire was large enough to require a second alarm, alerting more firefighters to the fire on Fiddlers Roof Lane in Ballantyne.

Charlotte Fire Department responded to the fire around 1:45 a.m. Sunday and saw smoke when they arrived.

Fifty firefighters controlled the flames in 24 minutes. The investigation found the accidental fire originated around the HVAC unit in the attic, according to CFD.

CFD: Apartment fire sends one person to hospital

No one was injured in the fire, but two families were displaced.

The damage to the property is estimated to be $155,000, the fire department said.
