Balloons light up Days in the Park at Silver Park
The second day of the Greater Alliance Carnation Festival's Days in the Park brought out a hundreds of people who enjoyed a sunny, cooler night than the festival's hot and humid first week. Thursday night traditionally is a Balloon Lift-off event featuring colorful hot-air balloons. They didn't go up this year, but many still were inflated so attendees could enjoy the view, get a few photos and see how the process works. Also part of Thursday's activities was a performance by The Liverpool Lads, a group that dresses like the Fab Four while performing. The festival concludes Saturday with fireworks at dusk, following a perfomance by Alliance's own John Hampu Band from 6 to 9 p.m. at Silver Park. Saturday also is the festival's Grand Parade, which travels along Union Avenue and State Street in the city. And, from 3 to 5 p.m., the annual Community Gospel Songfest will be held at Silver Park. The festival concludes Sunday, with the YWCA Unity Walk, which steps off at 1 p.m. from YWCA of Alliance at 239 E. Market St.
