Apr. 13—Ballots to decide who will fill New Mexico's vacant seat in the House of Representatives can now be requested, and early voting opens in three weeks.

A June 1 special election has been called to decide who will represent New Mexico's 1st Congressional District. The seat is open because former Rep. Deb Haaland, D-N.M., resigned when she was confirmed as interior secretary.

There will be four candidates on the ballot. State Rep. Melanie Stansbury will be the Democrat and state Sen. Mark Moores is the Republican. Chris Manning, an auditor who lives in Farmington, is the Libertarian candidate. Aubrey Dunn, a former state land commissioner, is running as an independent.

Two write-in candidates, Laura Olivas and Robert Ornelas, have also qualified for the election but their names won't appear on the ballot, according to the Secretary of State's Office.

Absentee ballots can be requested until May 27.

Early voting starts at county clerks' offices on May 4. Additional polling places will open May 15 and early voting ends May 29.

The congressional district includes most of Bernalillo County, all of Torrance County and parts of Sandoval, Santa Fe and Valencia counties.
