Ballot style issue affects 58 Mesa County voters

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — October 25, a citizen of Mesa County reported an issue with their ballot to Mesa County Elections: their ballot was missing the School District 51 races. Elections discovered the issue affects 58 active voters.

Some of the affected addresses are 587-599 Catskill Court, 595-599 Colonial Drive, 592 Creekside Circle and 590-598 Creekside Court. The Election Division is communicating with registered voters in the affected area and corrected ballots will be reissued.

Elections says the error was caused by a database issue following a 2022 revamp of their street file, required every 10 years after the census. The database “did not accurately associate some addresses with School District 51.” This is the first D51 race since the file update.

“We are actively taking steps to prevent such occurrences in the future,” Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Bobbie Gross said in a press release.
