Ballots finalized after some candidates withdraw

Since qualifying closed, several candidates who originally qualified to run in the Nov. 7 for seats on area city councils have since withdrawn.

The following options will appear on the ballot:

In Wrens, citizens will vote for one of two options for mayor, David Hannah or incumbent Johnny Rabun; and vote for two of five options for council, incumber Marty Amerson, Miranda R. Berry, Wayne Favors, Torrey “TK” King and Eugene Love Jr.

In Wadley, citizens will vote for two of four candidates in the general election for city council, Darrin Johnson, Kendrick Johnson, incumbent Albert “Mr. Fat” Samples and incumbent Jerry L. Thomas. Residents will also have to opportunity to vote for one of three candidates in the special election to fill the remainder of the council term of Councilman Izell Mack, who died earlier this year. For his seat voters will choose between Ezee “Zeke” Carter, Maggie Riggins Jones and Tommie “TLE” Lordge.

Residents of Stapleton will vote for one of two candidates for mayor, either Phillip A. Beckworth or incumbent Lisa M. Cranford. They will also vote for two of the following candidates for council seats, incumbent Jason V. Irby, Gail Spiller or incumbent Christopher Whipple.

In Louisville, residents will vote for one candidate of the following three for one council seat, Donald L. Cobb Jr., Melanie M. Davis or incumbent Michelle Braddy Reaves, and one of two other candidates for a second council seat, either incumbent Larry Atkins or Larkin Williams.

Election Deadlines

On Nov. 7, Jefferson County will be conducting general elections for the cities of Wrens, Wadley, Stapleton and Louisville.

The deadline to register to vote in this election, change your address or name is Oct. 10.

The first day of advance voting, or absentee in-person voting, will be Oct. 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Jefferson County Board of Elections Office in Louisville. Absentee by mail ballots can also be sent starting on that date. Advance voting will also be offered during the weeks leading up to the Nov. 7 election at the Louisville location on weekdays as well as Saturdays Oct. 21 and Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Additional advance voting sites will be open Oct. 30 through Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed from noon to 1 p.m.) at both the Rabun Center in Wrens and the Community Center in Wadley.

During the Nov. 7 election, all polling locations within Jefferson County will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
