Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson delights Cleveland Browns fans with trade request

No, Browns fans aren’t above being completely, totally and gleefully petty and wallowing in schadenfreude when it comes to the Baltimore Ravens.

And given the two teams’ intertwined histories, it may even be warranted. After all, some Browns fans have sunk to incredible lows in the name of revenge. More than likely, most fans would prefer that the Browns consistently pluck the Ravens feathers on the field. But in this case, they’ll likely take what they can get.

It comes in knowing that Lamar Jackson wants out of Baltimore. He’s wanted out since March 2, apparently. And the one-time NFL most valuable player wants out because he doesn’t believe the Ravens are offering him proper compensation for his skills.

“I want to first thank you all for all of the love and support you consistently show towards me. All of you are amazing and I appreciate y’all so much,” Jackson tweeted in a thread Monday. “I want you all to know not to believe everything you read about me. Let me personally answer your questions in regards to my future plans. As of March 2nd I requested a trade from the Ravens organization for which the Ravens has not been interested in meeting my value, any and every one that’s has met me or been around me know I love the game of football and my dream is to help a team win the Super Bowl.

“You all are great but I had to make a business decision that was best for my family and I. No matter how far I go or where my career takes me, I’ll continue to be close to my fans of Baltimore Flock nation and the entire State of Maryland. You’ll see me again.”

The thread itself displays the confidence in one aspect of sports fandom that began an evolution with Michael Jordan. Many fans root for the name on the back, not the name on the front anymore. It’s more about the player than any team loyalty. That’s especially true for those players who fans perceive transcend the game with their skill level.

I don’t know that Jackson does that in totality given that his pass game skillset still lacks to some degree, but he’s certainly one of those faces in the NFL.

But I digress.

Jackson is no favorite of Browns fans and that certainly showed in social media reactions regarding those tweets.

Driving the dagger in further, it can be argued that the Browns and Jimmy and Dee Haslams’ astronomical payment for Deshaun Watson sent the quarterback market into orbit. Yes, it’s really sweet for Browns fan today.
