Bamberg Co. man dead after standoff in Aiken, Coroner’s Office investigating

AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) – The Aiken County Coroner’s Office is now investigating the death of a Bamberg County man following what authorities say was a standoff with law enforcement officers.

The incident happened Thursday, January 25th at 11:30 P.M. in the parking lot in the 1900 block of East Pine Log between Millbrook Baptist Church and the McDonald’s.

According to authorities, Aiken Department of Public Safety officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle parked in the parking lot, and authorities say the driver of the vehicle, identified as Shanon Crosby, 42, refused to exit the vehicle barricading himself inside the vehicle.

Officers say as they attempted to talk Crosby out of the vehicle, a single gunshot from
inside the vehicle was heard, and Crosby was later pronounced deceased on the
scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Department will continue with the investigation.

Authorities say there will be an autopsy in Newberry.
