Ban on diesel vehicles extended in the NCR

The ban on registration of new diesel vehicles over 2000cc to curb pollution in New Delhi has been extended indefinitely until the next hearing on 9th of May. This ban was imposed on December 16th, 2015 - April 30th, 2016, in a bid to clean up the air quality in the NCR.
A huge blow to automakers, sales figures for some of them have been direly affected and influenced their operations to switch to petrol versions or opt for lower capacity diesel engines. Sources added that sales for some car makers have been affected by up to 41 per cent due to the unrest in the national capital region. Also, diesel taxis will stay off NCR roads from the 1st of May as the Supreme Court refused to extend the deadline (April 30th). They have pressed that diesel taxis must convert to CNG so that the pollution levels in the NCR can be brought down.
“We are conscious and firm about our order. This argument of having liabilities will not hold good. Ply these vehicles wherever you want to but not in Delhi-NCR,” a bench headed by Chief Justice of India TS Thakur said at a special hearing on air pollution.
