Banana Republic closes Easton storefront after 25 years

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Banana Republic has closed its Easton Town Center store after 25 years at the mall, following the lead of numerous Gap-brand stores in the state and country.

The clothing store officially closed its Easton storefront on Jan. 31 on its lease expiration date, according to Easton management.

The store’s parent company, Gap Inc., did not respond to a request for comment. Gap announced in 2020 that it would close about 350 Gap and Banana Republic stores in North America. Seven Banana Republic stores have closed in Ohio since, including locations in Polaris, Beachwood, Fairlawn, Jeffersonville, Toledo and Cincinnati. Additionally, six Gap stores have closed in the state.

The string of closures is due to the company working to “adapt to the current market conditions and meet the increase in online demand,” according to its website.

The only remaining Banana Republic in central Ohio is an outlet store in Sunbury. A new tenant taking over Banana Republic’s previous location in Easton will be announced soon, according to Easton management.
