Chris Daughtry’s voice didn’t just top the charts a decade and a half ago — it ruled them.

A finalist on the fifth season of “American Idol,” the singer unleashed a self-titled debut album upon the world in late 2006 with his band, Daughtry. It became the best-selling album of 2007, according to Billboard. The collection of unashamedly mainstream rock uncorked four top 20 songs, including major radio hits “It’s Not Over” and “Home.”

Consequently, fans will hear plenty of familiar tunes when Daughtry rolls into the Boise market for a concert Aug. 9 at the Revolution Concert House and Event Center.

“Daughtry” was the fastest-selling debut rock album in the history of Nielsen SoundScan, according to the band’s biography. (Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales in March of 1991.) It wound up selling more than 6 million copies in the United States.

And although the group’s career arc dipped soon after, it remained impressive.

Daughtry’s second album, “Leave This Town,” debuted at No. 1 in 2009 and has sold more than 1.3 million copies. The group’s third album, “Break the Spell,” came out in 2011 and debuted in the top 10.

Daughtry’s latest effort, “Dearly Beloved” — its sixth studio album — came out last fall.

Tickets to the Daughtry concert start at $37.50 and are available at Ticketmaster. Black Stone Cherry will open the show. Music starts at 7:30 p.m. The Revolution Concert House is at 4983 N. Glenwood St. in Garden City.
