Banda MS coming to Acrisure Arena; tickets go on sale Friday

Mexican music group Banda MS, also known as Banda MS de Sergio Lizárraga, will delight the stage with its large brass and drum instrument ensemble on June 16 at Acrisure Arena.

The tour “MS 20 Años" celebrates 20 years of the group's professional career.

Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, on Ticketmaster.com.

Banda MS is one of many Mexican music groups currently enjoying global success. The 19-member band has won many Billboard Latin Music Awards, including a recent Regional Mexican Artist of the Year win, celebrated 2 billion streams on Spotify in 2019, sold out Madison Square Garden in New York and performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival last April. The group also performed at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in August.

In a previous interview with The Desert Sun, clarinetist and composer Pavel Ocampo described performing at Coachella as a “milestone” for the band because of its more traditional Mexican sound known as banda, which originated in Mexico during the late 19th century and features woodwind, brass and percussion instruments.

The band formed in 2003. The "MS" in the group's name references the members' hometown of Mazatlán in the Mexican state of Sinaloa.

The group has released 17 albums, most recently "Punto y Aparte" in November.
