Banjo music, ice cream, free books Friday at Altrusa Park

Banjo player Donna Bruck Hwang will perform Friday, during a special literacy event at Altrusa Park, 107 E. Front St.

The event will run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Bruck Hwang will play from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Bruck Hwang will play songs like “Oh Susanna” and  “Turkey in the Straw.”

At 6 p.m., Dr. William E. McCloskey will read the book "Click, Clack Moo Cows That Type" by Doreen Cronin and illustrated by Betsy Lewin.

Altrusa International Foundation of Monroe will give out 50 books to audience members.

Ice cream also will be served.

Attendee should bring a lawn chair, cushion or blanket. Admission is free.

Events are held the fourth Friday of every month at the park, which is considered Monroe's only "pocket park." It is located on the Riverwalk in downtown Monroe. Another literacy event will be held Aug. 24 at the park.
