Banned For Life: U.S. Tourist Throws Scooter Down Rome's Spanish Steps Causing $26,000 In Damage
In latest news, a U.S. tourist who threw an electric scooter down Rome‘s Spanish Steps has been banned for life from the site.
A visit to Rome’s historic Spanish Steps ended with a fine and a life-long ban for this particular U.S. traveler. The woman, a 28-year-old U.S. American traveler allegedly threw the scooter down the iconic steps. The incident that occurred in Italy’s historic capital was caught on video.

A passerby captured the incident showing the moment the tourist let the scooter go down the Spanish Steps. Shortly after the U.S. tourist throws scooter down Rome’s Spanish Steps, the police caught up with the woman and her companion. After reviewing the footage, the police fined the U.S. tourists €400 each. The Guardian reports that the incident took place in the early hours of Friday.
Reportedly, the e-scooter caused significant damage to the steps when the tourist threw it down, €25,000 worth of damage to be exact. The U.S. tourists are permanently banned from returning to the UNESCO site.
The incident has sparked mass outrage online because the UNESCO world heritage site has already undergone a €1.5m restoration in 2015. As of 2018 the Italian Government made it illegal to even sit on the famous steps.
This is not the first incident to cause damage in Italy’s precious historic sites. Only a week earlier a Mexican brother and sister duo crashed a drone into the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
