Bao Brewhouse To Open In Larimer Square

DENVER, CO — A new, modern Chinese street food brewhouse is set to open Friday in Denver's Larimer Square.

Bao Brewhouse has taken over the 6,600-square-foot Euclid Hall, at 1317 14th Street. The new eatery will only open for delivery and takeout, but when COVID-19 restrictions ease and guests are allowed to dine in, they can expect a unique experience.

Inspired by Chinese night markets, the restaurant has been designed to represent "the diversity of China" on each floor, said Michael Swift, Bao's owner.

“I am excited to make my dream a reality and to bring something that’s never been seen before to my favorite city,” Swift said.

The main floor of the restaurant will serve Chinese street food, and the second floor will offer a feel of 'old China' — with a more intimate dining setting and custom-built tearooms. The basement will be a speakeasy that serves unique Chinese flavor-infused cocktails, which guests can sip while catching a glimpse of the kitchen.

Graffiti artists Mike Graves and Tukeone created street art murals that adorn the walls and LVTD Design assisted with transforming the main air duct into a dragon.

Bao’s menu includes starters such as Vegan Mushroom Hot and Sour Soup, mushroom dashi tofu with fresno chilis and pickled veggies; and Cold Noodle Salad with khombu, cucumber, shiitake, cabbage and spring onions with nuoc cham.

The eatery's Dim Sum dishes will include a nod to Euclid Hall: bratwurst and kraut gyoza with spicy blood orange mustard. The Dim Sum menu will also include Colorado Lamb Bansh, Mongolian style lamb dumplings with cucumber, radish and dumpling sauce and Low Country Shrimp Shumai, mushroom dashi soup dumplings.

Signature drinks will include the Bao lager, rice ales and specialty cocktails such as the Ming Dynasty and Buddha's Journey.

To celebrate the location’s debut during the holidays, Bao Brewhouse will sponsor a toy drive and give 15 percent off to any customer who donates a toy when picking up their order.

With COVID-19 restrictions in place, Bao Brewhouse will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday for takeout, and customers can place their orders from Bao's website. Delivery is offered through GrubHub, UberEats, DoorDash and Post Mates.

The eatery will offer a happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday after Denver's ban on indoor dining is lifted. Plans to roll out a dim sum brunch and private event bookings for the upper mezzanine floor are in the works, the restaurant said.
