Baptist Health Care Foundation raises more than $13,000 to support its Mammogram Fund

Baptist Health Care Foundation continues to work with community partners and donors, including our Local Honda Dealer, to help raise funds and awareness about the Foundation’s Mammogram Fund. Throughout the month of October, the foundation raised more than $13,000 to benefit its Mammogram Fund, which helps provide mammograms to those in need in the community.

Since the start of this program 14 years ago, screenings have been provided to 2,787 individuals. As a result of these screenings, 741 required additional testing, 94 required biopsies and 32 were diagnosed with breast cancer.

SRMC encourages heart health education ahead of American Heart Month

With heart disease continuing to be one of the leading causes of death in Santa Rosa County, the Santa Rosa Medical Center is using 2024’s leap year to help people care for their heart.

According to the Florida Department of Health, in 2022, heart disease killed 344 people in Santa Rosa County – with nearly 60 percent of those patients being male. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates one person dies every 36 seconds from cardiovascular disease across the United States.

This February, SRMC is encouraging everyone to recognize American Heart Month and sign up for its Leap into Heart Health educational email series. People who sign up will receive short, fun-filled, fact-filled, potentially life-saving emails designed to help improve heart health. Topics include ways to “spring” into action, “skip” past stress, “hurdle” over harmful habits, “hop” into bed earlier for better rest and other “steps” anyone can take toward a stronger, healthier heart.

In 2023, SRMC accelerated its mission to help people get well and live healthier by expanding cardiac services to include interventional cardiology services. Santa Rosa Medical Center’s American College of Cardiology accredited Chest Pain Center has since performed more than 50 successful percutaneous coronary intervention, preventing life-threatening heart attacks for members of the community.

The Leap into Heart Health email series will be delivered to inboxes every other day in February with a short article and heart health tips you can try right away. The series also includes warnings about symptoms and conditions that may indicate you should see a doctor, especially high blood pressure, high cholesterol and genetic predisposition to heart disease.

Next Mayor’s Neighborhood Cleanup set for Saturday

The next Mayor's Neighborhood Cleanup will take place Saturday, Jan. 27 in the downtown area and portions of surrounding neighborhoods. This event allows city of Pensacola sanitation customers in the cleanup area to leave eligible items at the curb for pickup, free of charge. Sanitation customers in the cleanup area must place items curbside by 7 a.m. on the day of the cleanup. Note that items left curbside outside of the cleanup area will not be collected. The cleanup includes bulk items only. Yard waste or garbage will not be collected.

Keep tires and paint cans separate from all other debris. Do not place piles under low-hanging lines or near poles, fences or mailboxes.  Through the Mayor's Neighborhood Cleanup program, all city neighborhoods have a cleanup once a year during the months of January through October. In addition to Sanitation Services collecting items left at the curb, Code Enforcement conducts a sweep of the cleanup area and addresses any code violations.  Visit cityofpensacola.com for details.
