Barham leads Plainsmen wrestlers into the championship semifinal at the NCCT

Dec. 16—The Laramie High girls wrestling team advanced one to the championship semifinal at the Northern Colorado Christmas Tournament on Saturday in Greeley, Colorado.

Senior McKenna Barham (7-2) added her seventh match win of the year in the quarterfinals by pinning Pueblo Central's (Colorado) Kenna Pino (13-6). Unfortunately, Barham's first loss came in the semifinals against Severance's (Colorado) Cadie Percy (15-0) by pin.

She then made her way to the consolation semifinal where she lost to North Fork's (Colorado) Jaylee Hall (8-2) by pin. Barham finished with a 17 team points in the tournament to lead both the boys and girls team.

Also, for the girls, junior Avianca Guzman (5-3) won her consolation round four match against Adams City's Sarah Davis (5-6) by pin. Guzman was pinned in her next match by Pueblo Central's Roxie Rodriguez (10-4) finishing her weekend at nine team points.

For the boys, senior Dakota Ledford (10-3) dropped a quarterfinal match against Cannon City's Elias Koonce (15-1) by major decision. He lost in consolation round six against Alameda International's (Colorado) by major decision ending his tournament with 9.5 team points.

Senior Treten Hubbs was pinned by Erie's (Colorado) Carson Hageman (4-1) in his quarterfinal match. In consolation round six, Hubbs dropped a decision against Eaton's (Colorado) Jackson Tribbett (8-3) putting him at 12 team points.

The Laramie girls totaled 26 team points for a 43rd place finish out of 62 remaining teams while the boys scored 42.5 team points taking 47th out of 84.

Plainsmen wrestlers return to the mat on the road against Wheatland on Jan. 4th.
