Barnes & Noble to leave Norfolk’s MacArthur Center

The Barnes & Noble serving as Tidewater Community College’s bookstore in MacArthur Center is closing Dec. 21 as it transitions to a campus location.

The bookstore is moving to the Norfolk campus student center across the street at 310 Granby St. and will operate in a temporary space there until construction finishes on the new store, the college announced. The two-story bookstore opened on the second and third floors of the mall in 2007.

Karen Campbell, TCC vice president of student affairs, said the change makes the bookstore more accessible to students.

The move is part of a new contract between Barnes & Noble College, which operates more than 770 campus stores nationwide, and Tidewater Community College. The company has managed TCC bookstores since 2006. Barnes & Noble College is part of Barnes & Noble Education, a separate company from the retail chain.

The Virginia Beach campus bookstore will remain open while undergoing renovations. The Chesapeake and Portsmouth campus bookstore distribution centers will continue operating. All locations will continue to carry TCC-branded apparel and products in addition to school supplies.
