Barnes & Noble to open new store at Eastview Mall

Barnes & Noble is opening a store at Eastview Mall in Victor.

The business will be in an 8,029-square-foot space near Entrance 2 that is next door to Pottery Barn and until recently was home to Oriental Rug Mart. That store has moved to a spot just outside Von Maur.

There isn't a firm date for the Barnes & Noble opening, but it probably will happen this winter after a buildout of the store space, a spokesperson for mall owner Wilmorite said.

In a statement, Eastview manager Mike Kauffman said shoppers have long requested a bookstore, and “Barnes & Noble adds a great element and certainly will enhance our center.”

In addition to books, the store will sell stationery, gifts, toys, games, magazines and newspapers and have a café.

Barnes & Noble has about 600 locations nationwide, four of which are in the Rochester market: Pittsford, Webster, Greece and Rochester (at College Town).

After more than a decade of closing stores, the chain is in the midst of a major brick-and-mortar revival, with plans to open 30 stores in 2023, Fast Company reported.

“We’ve now got both the profitability and the confidence to start opening up stores again,” CEO James Daunt told the Wall Street Journal.

Prior to becoming CEO in 2019 after the sale of Barnes & Noble to hedge fund Elliott Management, Daunt led a “seemingly miraculous turnaround” of Britain’s largest bookstore chain, Waterstones, NPR reported.
