SOFTBALL

Division II

Johnston 5-2, South Kingstown 2-0

It doesn’t look like anyone told Haley Boudreau freshmen aren’t supposed to do what she’s been doing this season for the Johnston softball team.

The Panthers’ ace continued her dazzling debut season in the circle Tuesday afternoon, throwing a complete-game four-hit shutout to help Johnston take down South Kingstown, 2-0, and improve its record to 5-2 in Division II.

“At first I was nervous,” Boudreau said. “But with my travel team we get a lot of experience against older girls so I ready coming into this and knew how it was going to play.”

“Having a freshman, sometimes it’s nerve-wracking for her but she’s been doing a great job on the mound,” Johnston junior Lexi DiLorenzo said. “It’s been really impressive to watch her and all of her accomplishments the last few games.”

Johnston freshman Haley Boudreau was on point Tuesday, throwing a complete-game four-hitter to help the Panthers take down South Kingstown, 2-0.

Boudreau was in a groove from start to finish and while she didn’t have her usual double-digit strikeout numbers, she did finished with seven Ks and, more importantly, didn’t let a runner cross.

The freshman needed to be sharp because SK senior pitcher Sarah Jones was equally impressive. The Panthers had scored 21 runs in its last two games but struggled to get on base against Jones.

Johnston did come up clutch when it needed to. In the third inning DiLorenzo roped a double to center field that scored Michelina Irons for the Panthers’ first run and in the sixth, Irons hit a sacrifice fly that scored Hannah Calabro.

Boudreau didn’t need the insurance run as she closed out the seventh inning clean, improving Johnston to 5-2 on the season heading into Thursday’s game at Ponaganset.

“We need to play way better than we did today,” Boudreau said, “to beat a team like Ponaganset.”

“We know they’re a great team,” DiLorenzo said. “… We’re hoping to keep up our game and hopefully it will be a good match between us.”

South Kingstown fell to 3-5 with the loss, which was their third of the season by three runs or less. The Rebels will be back in action Thursday when they travel to play regional rival Narragansett.

BASEBALL

Division III

The Wizards' starter Dominic Carollo pitched four innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out four. Jaymond Labossiere drove in both runs with a double and single.
