Barrique Kitchen & Wine Bar in Avondale closing on May 30
Barrique Kitchen & Wine Bar will close permanently on May 30 after more than four years in the heart of Avondale.
Barrique was known for its modern European-influenced small plates plus its Old-World ambiance — serving dinner and weekend brunch. It replaced the former Cowford Traders retail store.
The restaurant opened on Dec. 7, 2017, at 3563 St. Johns Ave. in the Shoppes of Avondale. Since then, it's been known as a "date night" destination and place for special occasion celebrations.

Taken by surprise, many customers reacted with dismay after Barrique announced its pending closure on a Facebook page Saturday morning.
Barrique, which means small wine barrel in French, had a selection of about 200 wines. It was established by partners from Ponte Vedra Beach and New York. The partners couldn't be reached for comment Saturday.
Customers posted goodbyes on social media.
"I'm devastated! This is my favorite place," one customer posted along with a crying emoji for emphasis.
Another posted "Sad news. You did a great job during the uncertainty of the last years. Enjoy retirement."
Resembling an Old World wine cellar, the Avondale restaurant was similar to a Long Island restaurant with the same concept and name.
