Barry records double-double in first half

Jan. 14—GORHAM, Maine — Senior All- America forward Anna Barry recorded a double- double in the first half as the Eastern Connecticut State University women's basketball team took a 10- point halftime lead in its 62- 45 Little East Conference victory Thursday night over Southern Maine at Hill Gymnasium.

Barry, who finished 11-for-12 from the floor, including making her first nine shots, finished with season-highs of 24 points and seven blocks while also grabbing 20 rebounds — two shy of her career high set earlier this season — for her 10th double- double as the Warriors (12-4, 6-1 league) have won eight of their last nine games to move into sole possession of second place in the LEC — one- half game behind first place Rhode Island College ( 132, 6-0).

It marked the eighth time this year and third straight game that ECSU have kept its opponent under 50 points.

Barry had 13 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks over the opening 20 minutes as the Warriors took a 29- 19 lead into the break fueled by a 18- 2 run over a 10- minute span.

It included five points from Barry and back- toback 3-pointers from Jenna Serrantino and Jaclyn Santella.

The lead reached 20 points ( 50- 30) to open the fourth quarter after a basket and foul shot from Barry following a steal.

The Huskies (4-9, 2-4) got as close as 12 points with four minutes remaining before ECSU ran off the next eight points on field goals in the paint from Barry, Kya Mayo, Taylor Solato and Cara McGettigan to push the lead back out to 20.

Serrantino finished with 10 points and four rebounds and Mariah Dunn added eight points and five rebounds.

Eastern hosts Western Connecticut State University ( 10- 3, 3- 2) Wednesday at 5 p. m. in a conference game at Geissler Gymansium.
