Barstow Police have arrested a man and woman for allegedly being the source of gunshots that prompted lockdowns Thursday morning at two local K-12 schools.

The police department's school resource officer "called out shots fired near Barstow High School" and imposed a lockdown in both the high school and nearby Barstow STEM Academy at about 9 a.m. Thursday, Barstow PD said in a post on its Facebook page.

Officers and detectives responded and identified "an adult female leaving in a green vehicle south on Mount Vernon [St.]," then stopped the vehicle and "detained both a male driver and a female passenger," per the post.

"The initial investigation revealed the shots did not occur from the high school, but instead from across the street between the female and male during a domestic dispute," the department stated.

The schools remained in lockdown while officers processed the scene until about 10 a.m., when they returned to normal operations. The department said officers and school staff were available at the high school to answer any questions from parents Thursday morning.

Barstow PD couldn't be immediately reached for further clarification on the identify of the man and woman who were arrested or the current status of their detainment. A photo posted by the department on Facebook showed police tape restricting the intersection of Mount Vernon and Mountain View St., presumably the scene of the arrest.
