Bartlesville, Dewey, Oklahoma Union cross country crews surge through meets

Area prep cross country runners worked up a healthy sweat this past weekend as they charged through early season meets.

Following are summaries.

BARTLESVILLE

VARSITY GIRLS: The Bartlesville Lady Bruins edgedTulsa Union — considered to be one of their chief rivals in the pecking order to qualify for state — by 11 points at the Broken Arrow meet. Despite competing without their top pacer, the Lady Bruins finished third overall (118 points), behind Piedmont (42) and Jenks (49). Rounding out the top five team were Bishop Kelley (128) and Tulsa Union (129). Emily Lechuga spearheaded the Bartlesville charge. She hustled into eighth place (20:20.82), followed by freshman Katherine Manley — running her first varsity 5K — in 20th place (22:02.2) and Lauren Shoesmith (24th, 22:22.46). Rounding out the Bartlesville squad were freshman Reese Savage (33rd, 22:54.15), Emma Perry (35th, 23:07.54), Olivia Ontiveros (48th, 24:51.78.

VARSITY BOYS: The Bruins finished eighth out of 11 teams. Tanner John topped the Bruin continent when he finished 32nd (18:35.55). The remaining six Bruin runners included Russell Miller (34th, 18:41.52), Tehi Chibitty (39th, 19:05.38), Kayden Reyes (53rd, 19:43.47), Cade Winter (71st, 20:30.76), Reed Gorman (78th, 21:12.97) and Jackson Boudreaux (81st, 22:12.34).

JAYVEE GIRLS: Once again, Maryann Alvey bulleted to first place overall (20:53.15) for the Lady Bruin jayvee. Bartlesville finished fourth as a team. The squad’s other top six pacers included: Kailey Malcom (5th, 24:02.82), Kara Stose (22nd, 26:07.29), Arin Bailey (24th, 26:43.56), Raine Jones (31st, 27:28.75), Annie Murphy (42nd, 29:38.89) and Braylyn Andrews (43rd, 29:44.39),

JAYVEE BOYS: The Bruins finished sixth as a team. Finishing in Bartlesville’s top seven were: Jesse Espinal-Cruz (20th, 20:47.45), Ben Zielenski (34th, 21:50.5), Chase Laxson (35th, 21:53.67), Nathan Beckloff (36th, 21:57.93), Grayson Tesavis (37th, 22:01.18), Ben Laurisen (55th, 22:53.56) and Pierson Proctor (77th, 24:22.21).

MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS: Maci Alleman played follow-the-leader to help power Bartlesville to second place. The next nine-quickest Lady Bruins included: Madilyn Malcom (13th 11:10.43), Emma Kuntz (17th, 11:28.18), Karli Serratos (18th, 11:29.87), Isabella Prentice (21st, 11:42.51), Afton Miller (30th, 11:59.2), Eliza Miller (34th, 12:23.62), Brynn Bushyhead (12:25.31) Taylor Bradford (12:37.32) and Paisley Bryant (12:50.32).

MIDDLE SCHOOL BOYS: Bartlesville powered to second place thanks to top 10 finishes by Wesley Turner (4th, 9:10.53) and Jesus Gaytan-Lopez (8th, 9:39.39). The next eight Bruin finishers included: DaVion Broch (11th, 9:44.25), Michael Taylor (12th, 9:44.57), Sutton Huff (13th, 9:45.1). Grayson Ellis (19th, 9:53.56), Payson Winward (24th, 10:11.01), Lincoln Pulsifer (0:33.56), Talmage King (10:54.5) and Brett Bushyhead (10:56.37).

DEWEY

VARSITY BOYS: The Doggers came in 10th in their division in the Claremore meet. Scott Horton zipped to Dewey’s fastest time (29th, 19:46.93), followed by Daniel Jones (38th, 20:19.98), Caleb Whitson (71st, 22:37.75), Cooper Eutsler (75th, 23:14.21), Tre Hicks (83rd, 24:56.06; Lathe Griffs (89th, 26:11.2) and Karson Johnson (93rd, 26:18.35).

VARSITY GIRLS: Returning state qualifier Tania Salinas led Dewey by finishing 17th (14:39.07), followed by Eden McKinney (36th, 16:46.14) and Izzy Perry (42nd, 17:13.69).

JAYVEE BOYS: Kooper Crawford led Dewey by coming in 57th (25:58.65), followed by Teagen Crane (61st, 26:33.12) and Clayton Evans (75th, 28:54.99).

OKLAHOMA UNION

VARSITY GIRLS: Oklahoma Union also competed at Claremore. Their lone varsity girls runner Lauryn Jackson came in ninth (14:09.82).

VARSITY BOYS: Oklahoma Union boasted four finishers: Nicholas Jackson (26th, 19:31.85), Braden Green (87th, 25:28.1), Jack Campos (94th, 26:35.7) and James Bottoms (95th, 26:52.7).
