Bartlesville gymnasts dominate competition at Airborne Gymnastics Academy meet
Even had a movie writer composed a script for opening of 2022 competition for Bartlesville Gymnastics, it’s doubtful he could have dreamed up a better start.
During last weekend’s Airborne Gymnastics Academy competition, Bartlesville swept the team championship in every category it entered a squad — Level 10, Level 9, Level 3 and XG.
In addition, the Bartlesville contingent invaded the medals’ stands with several individual titles.
“This was a great way to start 2022,” said Executive Director of Bartlesville Gymnastics Lorrie Bertolet. “We definitely had some wonderful moments and had some moments that build character. That’s okay because learning to compete is all part of the process. I could not be more excited for the rest of the season.”
Next up, the club will divide its teams to compete in Colorado and Tulsa.
The local warriors — who combine petite grace and breathless discipline with tinsel steel in their wiry frames — locked down several first-place showings at the Airborne competition.
Bartlesville’s All-Around champions included: Kylee Greene (Level 10, Senior A), Mallory Stephens (Level 10, Junior A), Raynie Ketcher (Level 9, Junior A), Emma Jones (Level 3, Senior A), Timberly Covert (Level 3, Junior B), Tiara Benavides (XG, Senior A) and Burklee Orphin (XG, Junior A).
Jones made a golden sweep by winning all four individual events (vault, uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise).
Team members that won at least two individual events included: Madelyn Stuart (Level 10, Junior A, vault, bars), Greene (vault, beam, floor), Covert (vault, beam, floor), Ketcher (vault, bars) and Benavides (vault, bars, beam).
