New Providence 8, Union Catholic 0
New Providence started the season strong fresh off its run to the Group 1 title game. The Pioneers scored four times in the top of the third to break open the non-conference game. Ryan Grill threw 5 1/3 shutout innings and allowed just four hits with two strikeouts. He also went 1-for-2 with two walks.
Ethan Cifarelli finished with 1 2/3 innings of hitless ball with a strikeout. Jake Monaco (2 RBI, 2B), Brandon Cuccaro (RBI) and Robby Roth (2B, RBI) had two hits apiece.
Adding hits in the win were Cifarelli, Luca Vitale, Nick Santacross and Andrew Kowantz.
Franklin 4, Gill St. Bernard's 3
Franklin rallied with four runs in the bottom of the seventh for the walk-off win on opening day. Isaiah Robbinson went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Veer Singh threw two shutout innings for the relief win.
Warren Bell had an effective start by allowing three runs in five innings with nine strikeouts for the Warriors.
Jacob Gordon added two hits (2B) and scored, while Jacob Cruz, Lawrence Ho and Myles Castillo had a hit apiece.
For Gill, John DiGregorio and Zack Wendell had multi-hits and Jack Markovich drove in runs and Colin Chou doubled with an RBI.
