Baseball draws: Sheridan, Tri-Valley earn No. 2 seeds
Area high school baseball teams learned their first-round postseason matchups at tournament draws around the state on Sunday.
Here is a breakdown of where each team stands as the final week of the regular season gets underway.
East District
In Division II, Tri-Valley (15-4) earned the No. 2 seed in the upper bracket and will host the winner of a pigtail game between No. 13 Millersburg West Holmes (11-10) and No. 21 Maysville (1-17) at 5 p.m. on May 17 at Kenny Wolford Park in Dresden.
That winner faces either No. 9 Morgan (13-7) or No. 10 John Glenn (11-7), who play at 5 p.m. on May 17 in McConnelsville, at 5 p.m. on May 23 for a berth in the district semifinals. The site will be determined by the East District Athletic Board.
In the lower half of the bracket, No. 3 Cambridge (12-5) hosts the winner of No. 12 Wintersville Indian Creek and No. 20 Claymont and No. 5 New Philadelphia welcomes the winner of Lisbon Beaver Local, the 15th seed, and No. 16 East Liverpool.
The district finals are set for May 25.
In the lower bracket, No. 17 Zanesville (7-13) hosts No. 19 Belmont Union Local (2-12) at 1 p.m. Saturday for a shot to play at top-seeded Gnadenhutten Indian Valley at 5 p.m. on May 17. That winner gets either No. 7 Steubenville or No. 11 Carrollton in the district semifinals at 5 p.m. on May 23.
In the bottom half, No. 14 River View (9-10) welcomes No. 18 Minerva (4-12) at 1 p.m. Saturday, with the winner traveling to play No. 4 St. Clairsville at 5 p.m. on May 17. Below them, No. 6 Philo (13-6) hosts No, 8 Meadowbrook (11-8) at 5 p.m. in a sectional final on May 17.
The two sectional winners play for a district semifinal berth at 5 p.m. on May 23, with the district finals set for 5 p.m. on May 25. The sites of both games are to be determined.
In Division III, West Muskingum (3-16) earned the No. 14 seed and travels to play No. 3 Cadiz Harrison Central at the Huskies' newly renovated facility at 5 p.m. on May 16. The winner plays either No. 9 Zoarville Tuscarawas Valley or No. 11 Magnolia Sandy Valley in the sectional finals at 5 p.m. on May 18.
Above them, No. 7 Coshocton (10-7) hosts No. 12 Rayland Buckeye Local (9-10) and No. 2 Sugarcreek Garaway (12-4-2) entertains No. 15 Newcomerstown (3-13), with the winners playing for a district berth at 5 p.m. on May 18.
The district semifinals are set for 5 p.m. on May 23 at a site to be determined.
In Division IV, Rosecrans (11-5) earned the No. 5 seed and will host No. 8 Malvern (8-9) at 1 p.m. on May 14, with the winner getting either No. 4 New Matamoras Frontier (12-4) or No. 6 Hannibal River at 5 p.m. on May 18 for a district berth.
Rosecrans will host the game at Gant Municipal Stadium with a victory against the Hornets, coupled with a River win. The district semifinals are set for 5 p.m. on May 23.
Above them, No. 2 Berlin Hiland hosts No. 16 Beallsville and No. 7 Woodsfield Monroe Central welcomes nearby Sarahsville Shenandoah, which earned the No. 13 seed.
The district finals are set for 5 p.m. on May 25.
Southeast District
Sheridan earned the No. 2 seed in Division II, where only one team advances to the regional at Ohio University.
The Generals (17-4) host No. 15 Marietta at 5 p.m. on May 16, with the winner getting either No. 7 Athens or No. 10 Vincent Warren at 5 p.m. on May 18. The Generals would host the sectional final with a victory against Marietta.
Below them in the bracket, No. 3 seed Chillicothe Unioto hosts No. 14 Lancaster Fairfield Union and No, 6 Gallipolis Gallia Academy welcomes Hillsboro, the No. 11 seed.
The district semifinals are set for 7 p.m. on May 23 while the finals are at 5 p.m. on May 25. All district games are at Ohio University.
In the upper half, New Lexington (8-12) earned the No. 13 seed and travels to No. 4 Washington Court House Miami Trace at 5 p.m. on May 16. The winner plays either No. 5 Washington Court House or No. 12 Greenfield McClain at 5 p.m. on May 18 at the highest seed remaining.
Top-seeded Jackson is in the upper half of the top bracket, along with No. 8 Circleville, No. 9 Waverly, No. 16 Circleville Logan Elm and No. 17 McArthur Vinton County.
In Division III, Crooksville (4-12) was seeded 24th and plays at No. 9 seed Ironton at 5 p.m. on May 16. The winner plays either No. 8 Ironton Rock Hill or No. 25 South Point for a berth in the district semifinals.
