Baseball-Highlights of Saturday's Major League Baseball games

May 24 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Saturday's Major League Baseball games. - - - Rays 6, Red Sox 5 (15 innings) The Tampa Bay Rays, without a walkoff win in their first 47 games this season, have now done so three days in a row for the first time in franchise history, after outlasting the Boston Red Sox in 15 innings on Saturday. Tampa Bay (22-28) faced eight Boston pitchers before first baseman James Loney scored from second on a throwing error by Red Sox reliever Andrew Miller to end the game after five hours, 16 minutes. Boston (20-28) blew an early five-run lead to lose their ninth game in a row. The Rays trailed 5-0 in the first inning, but then held Boston to two hits for the next 14 innings before the bats finally came through in the 15th. - - - Blue Jays 5, Athletics 2 Right-hander R.A. Dickey pitched into the ninth inning and second baseman Brett Lawrie hit a home run as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Oakland Athletics. The Blue Jays (28-22) notched their fifth straight win to take first place in the American League East, while the Athletics (30-19) lost their third in a row. - - - Yankees 4, White Sox 3 (10 innings) The New York Yankees left it late but had enough in the tank to outlast the Chicago White Sox. The Yankees managed only three hits in eight innings against Chicago starter John Danks, but did not have nearly as much trouble against White Sox closer Ronald Belisario. New York stormed back with three runs on four hits and a walk off Belisario in the ninth to tie the game, before Jacoby Ellsbury hit a solo home run with two out in the 10th. - - - Marlins 2, Brewers 1 Right-hander Jacob Turner delivered his best start in almost a year as the Miami Marlins beat the Milwaukee Brewers. Turner pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings and picked up his first victory since July 10, 2013, in his longest start since then as the Marlins (26-24) ended a five-game skid against the Brewers (29-21). - - - Phillies 5, Dodgers 3 Pitcher David Buchanan had a strong major league debut and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Los Angeles Dodgers. Right-hander Buchanan gave up two runs (both earned) in five innings and struck out two without issuing a walk. He got the win with just 66 pitches. - - - Rockies 3, Braves 1 Juan Nicasio allowed just two hits over six scoreless innings and was backed by homers from Troy Tulowitzki and Michael Cuddyer as the Colorado Rockies beat the Atlanta Braves. The right-hander struck out five and walked four. - - - Rangers 12, Tigers 2 Rookie Nick Martinez posted his first major league win and rookie Rougned Odor had four hits and five RBIs to lead the Texas Rangers to a thumping road win over the Detroit Tigers. Kluber (5-3) picked up his third win in his past four outings and allowed five hits with just two walks as the Indians won for the five time in six games. - - - Pirates 3, Nationals 2 Hot-hitting James Harrison singled in the winning run in the two-run seventh inning as the Pittsburgh Pirates rallied to beat the Washington Nationals. Harrison is hitting .328 in his last 24 games for the Pirates, who have won four in a row, while the Nationals have dropped four straight to fall below .500 for the first time this season at 24-25. - - - Cardinals 6, Reds 3 Catcher Yadier Molina homered and Jon Jay, an emergency replacement in center field, contributed three hits and two RBI, lifting the St. Louis Cardinals to victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Jay, inserted into the starting lineup when Peter Bourjos was scratched with a stomach virus, went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for St. Louis (27-22). (Editing by Andrew Both)
