May 21 (The Sports Xchange) - The Philadelphia Phillies placed left-hander Cliff Lee on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a mild left elbow strain. The Phillies said it will be retroactive to May 19. Lee underwent an MRI on his elbow Tuesday in Philadelphia that revealed the strain. He experienced soreness in the elbow after his last start on Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds. Lee, 35, is 4-4 with a 3.18 ERA in 10 starts this season. - - - The Cincinnati Reds placed first baseman Joey Votto on the 15-day disabled list and activated outfielder Jay Bruce on Wednesday. Votto, who has a quad injury, last played in a doubleheader on May 15. The move was retroactive to May 16. Votto is batting .257 this season with a National League-leading 33 walks but was hitting just .209 in May. Bruce underwent an arthroscopic procedure on his left knee. - - - Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Juan Uribe was placed on the disabled list after injuring his right hamstring during Tuesday night's game. Defensive specialist Erisbel Arruebarrena was brought up from the minor leagues to bolster the Dodgers' infield depth and take Uribe's spot on the roster. - - - The Boston Red Sox officially signed shortstop Stephen Drew to a one-year contract through the 2014 season, the team announced Wednesday. The activation of Drew, 31, to the roster is a seemingly temporary move as manager John Farrell said Tuesday that he expects Drew to need 10-12 days and 25 at-bats in the minors before being ready for major league action. - - - A slimmer and stronger Matt Harvey, on the seven-month anniversary of Tommy John surgery, intends to return to the mound for the New York Mets before the 2014 season ends. Harvey, 25, was the All-Star game starter in his home park in 2013, had elbow ligament replacement surgery Oct. 22. He told Sports Illustrated he plans to be throwing off a mound on June 10.
