July 1 (The Sports Xchange) - The Los Angeles Angels acquired 37-year-old pitcher Rich Hill from the Boston Red Sox for cash considerations before Tuesday's doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox. Hill, who will become the Angels' lone left-hander in the bullpen for the time being, had spent the entire season at Triple-A Pawtucket. - - - The New York Yankees purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Jim Miller to help restore a depleted bullpen after Monday's 12th inning loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. To make room for Miller, the Yankees optioned right-handed pitcher Jose Ramirez to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. New York also transferred left-handed pitcher CC Sabathia to the 60-day disabled list. - - - Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Chris Owings underwent an MRI that showed no structural damage in his left shoulder. Owings, who has been on the disabled list since June 26, has been cleared to begin throwing but won't be allowed to hit for another week. - - - Atlanta placed catcher Evan Gattis on the 15-day disabled list with a bulging thoracic disk. He is scheduled to receive an epidural and will be re-evaluated in four or five days. The Braves recalled right-handed pitcher Juan Jaime from Triple-A Gwinnett to take his roster spot. - - - The Orioles reinstated outfielder Nolan Reimold from the 60-day disabled list and then designated him for assignment.
