Baseball: Owen Paino, Bobby Chicoine headline Section 1's 2022 all-section picks
Ketcham's Owen Paino and Byram Hills' Bobby Chicoine were the major award winners when the Section 1 baseball coaches honored this year's all-section players this week.
Paino, a shortstop and pitcher committed to Ole Miss, was named the Tony Zimbalatti Player of the Year. Although he's just a sophomore, he led Ketcham to the Section 1 Class AA championship while batting .442 and posting an 0.89 ERA on the mound. He was the winning pitcher and named MVP after the Section 1 final, then earned the win in a state subregional game.
Chicoine, a right-handed pitcher and first baseman committed to Boston College, was chosen as the Dom Cecere Pitcher of the Year. He finished 5-1 with a 1.04 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 60⅓ innings pitched. He also batted .403 with six home runs and 30 RBI.
The Section 1 baseball coaches honored those award winners as well as this year's all-section picks and Diamond Nine, the latter of which is awarded to top scholar-athletes.
