FRIDAY'S RECAPS

SOFTBALL

BURKBURNETT 9, GRAHAM 8

BURKBURNETT – Burkburnett all but locked up at least the No. 2 seed in District 5-4A Friday, holding off Graham for a 9-8 victory. It’s second one-run win for the Lady Bulldogs (13-11, 5-1) over Graham (10-11, 3-3) this season, leaving them solidly a game back of first-place Iowa Park (22-2, 6-0) in the district standings.

Burk pitcher Natalee Gray had to work around four errors to preserve the Lady Bulldogs’ lead late. She allowed eight runs but only two were earned on 10 hits and two walks with 12 strikeouts. Gray was also 2 for 4 at the plate with a triple and two RBIs.

Burk led 4-2 after three innings, but Graham tied it up with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. Burk answered with a five-run inning for a 9-2 advantage.

Graham scored two in the fifth and sixth innings but failed to get the tying run across. Only four of the Lady Bulldogs’ runs were earned with two Graham errors accounting for five runs.

HOLLIDAY 4, BRECKENRIDGE 0

HOLLIDAY – Breckenridge forced Holliday play a full seven innings Friday, but the result was the same, with the Lady Eagles winning another District 7-3A game via shutout.

The Lady Eagles defeated Breckenridge, 4-0, and pitcher Addison Lindemann still hasn’t allowed a run in nine district games. The Lady Eagles (22-2, 9-0) also locked up a playoff spot with the win while taking a 2 ½ game lead for first place in the district standings.

Lindemann limited Breckenridge to two hits and a walk with 16 strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Kinley Marek led the Lady Eagles at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.

This is only the second district game Holliday didn’t end early via the run rule.

BASEBALL

JACKSBORO 3, BOWIE 1

JACKSBORO – Jackson McComis outdueled a pair of Bowie pitchers Friday, leading Jacksboro to a 3-1 victory in a vital District 7-3A matchup. The Tigers (10-7, 5-2) and Rabbits (19-5, 5-2) are tied for second in the district standings, but Jacksboro holds the edge with a season sweep of the Rabbits.

McComis allowed just one unearned run on five hits and no walks with four strikeouts. Kaleem Howard and Baylor Laake led the Tigers at the plate, each going 2 for 3 with a run scored. Howard also drove in a run.

Kawlyer Swearingin pitched four innings of relief for Bowie, allowing one unearned run on four hits and three walks with six strikeouts. Swearingin was also 2 for 3 with a run scored at the plate.

TUESDAY'S RECAPS

SOFTBALL

HOLLIDAY 10, JACKSBORO 0

HOLLIDAY – Addison Lindemann’s dominance over District 7-3A continued with another shutout in Holliday’s 10-0 victory against Jacksboro in six innings Tuesday. The Lady Eagles (21-2, 8-0) remain undefeated in district play.

But more than that, Lindemann is yet to allow a run to a district opponent. In those eight games, Lindemann has struck out 86 batters and walked only four in 41 innings pitched. On Tuesday, she struck out seven with no walks and two hits in six shutout innings.

Allie Davis led Holliday at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two runs and a RBI. Campbell Jurecek was 1 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs.

BASEBALL

HOLLIDAY 12, JACKSBORO 6

HOLLIDAY – Holliday erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Tuesday, allowing the Eagles to overcome a one-run deficit and remain undefeated in District 7-3A with a 12-6 victory against Jacksboro. The Eagles (20-3, 6-0) now hold a commanding lead over the Tigers (9-7, 4-2) for first place in the district standings.

The Eagles trailed 5-4 entering the bottom of the sixth but had their first nine batters reach base, sparking the eight-run rally.

Cooper Turner and Dalton Anderson each had RBI doubles during the inning. Anderson finished 3 for 3 with two runs and an RBI. Turner was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Peyton Marchand added another home run to his area-best total of eight.

Cooper got the win on the mound in relief, allowing three runs – one earned – on a hit and three walks with seven strikeouts in three innings pitched.

Lando Belcher took the loss on the mound for Jacksboro but led the Tigers at the plate, going 1 for 2 with a homer, three runs scored and three RBIs.

PETROLIA TAKES TWO FROM SEYMOUR

SEYMOUR – Petrolia came through in the seventh inning to sweep a doubleheader from Seymour in District 9-2A action Tuesday. Petrolia scored four runs in the top of the seventh of Game 1, stealing a 6-5 victory. The Pirates snuck out a 2-1 win in Game 2. The winning run came on a bases-loaded walk in both games.

The Pirates (12-3, 8-0) remain undefeated in district, while Seymour (9-6, 3-4) remains in fourth place in the standings.

The Pirates were down to their last out, trailing 5-2 in Game 1 when three consecutive singles by Gage Bowers, Haven Atnip and Quade West resulted in three runs to tie the game at 5-5.

Seymour intentionally walked the bases loaded, opting to put Cooper Watson on first and pitch to Reece Hensley instead. Hensley drew a four-pitch walk, scoring Atnip as the go-ahead run.

Watson worked around one walk in the seventh inning to secure the win.

In Game 2, Seymour led 1-0 after five innings thanks to a sterling performance on the mound by Isaiah Ortiz. Ortiz outdueled Watson on the mound, allowing just two hits and a walk with 10 strikeouts in 4 2/3 shutout innings.

But Ortiz reched his pitch count for the day after throwing 43 pitches in Game 1. The Pirates took advantage.

Watson was intentionally walked with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, and Hensley made the Pirates pay again with a single that scored Quade West to tie the game.

The Pirates got the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the seventh, then Atnip worked a walk on a full count, allowing Canyon Carr to score the walk-off run.
